From our Program Chair

May Meeting Topic - Julio Hector, an active, dedicated, and passionate American Orchid Society Judge, with vast knowledge of the judging process will present: "Introduction to AOS Judging"

Julio entered the American Orchid Society judging program in 2010. After learning about a plethora of orchids, both species and hybrids, understanding the major building-block species and what they attribute to hybrids, giving monthly presentations at the judging center, attending monthly judging, participating in numerous study sessions, orchid shows, and meeting the stringent requirements of the program, he became a fully accredited judge on Oct. 26, 2017.

He has been the Tampa Bay Orchid Society Treasurer since 2009. He is a member of several American Orchid Society committees and has just finished his term as AOS Treasurer.

Julio grows a mixed collection of orchids in his 30' x 20' outdoor growing area (Three Gables) in Tampa, Florida. He has forty-four American Orchid Society awards, spread across multiple genera, with the majority granted to Paphiopedilums. His first AOS award was a CCM to Cycnodes Wine Delight 'J.E.M.' in 2007.

If you are an AOS member, click on the photos below to access OrchidPro. OrchidPro is the American Orchid Society's proprietary online orchid database, giving members access to over 100,000 photos of award-winning orchids, in-depth genealogy (parents, family trees, species makeup, progeny), and much more.
