Tampa Bay Orchid Society
is Celebrating FORTY-FIVE Years
of Bringing Orchid Growers Together
Tampa Bay Orchid Society was organized out of a need for orchid friends to come together one evening a month to share their love for orchids. At that time Tampa Orchid Club was well established. Many of our founding members were employed during the day and could not make a daytime meeting.
Times have changed and work schedules are more flexible. Today we happy to share members that can make both meetings. Tampa Orchid Club members are invited to install a display in our show, and all TBOS members are invited to enter plants in their EXPO.

From Our program Chair - Cheryl Crilly
Topic - To Be Announced
Our Guest Speaker for August is Pam Waters from Orchids In Bloom.
Pam Waters is the owner of Orchids in Bloom, a well‑known orchid nursery in Apopka, Florida, located at 2001 Rock Springs Rd, Apopka, FL 32712. The nursery is open Monday through Sunday,

August DRAWING TABLE PLANTS
from MIRANDA ORCHIDS
Miranda Orchids started in 1999 and is a nursery specializing in growing mainly selected Cattleya alliance species. In a sense, it is a continuation of Boa Vista Orchids, a nursery we ran in Brazil from 1986 until we moved to the U.S.A.
Many of the plants we make available are produced in our lab and nursery in Central Florida from our extensive collection of stud plants. The rest we bring from Brazil to increase variety and novelty. Being native Brazilians, and having had a nursery for many years, we know that there is a lot of development in Cattleya species being done there. This is mostly because a lot of those species are native from Brazil (including all the bifoliate cattleyas) and because these plants are favorites of growers there.
Of course having lived and grown orchids there for a long time, we know most of the growers and what is being produced and we go there several times a year to make sure we are kept up-to-date.
Miranda Orchids also grows other Brazilian species so if you are looking for something in particular do not hesitate in contact us. Our goal is to be your number one source for selected Brazilian Orchids.

INVITATION FOR YOU TO EXHIBIT YOUR ORCHIDS
Hey there fellow orchid lovers.
The Ridge Orchid Society Show and Sale is just around the corner. What does that mean to you? TBOS needs YOU. Or rather we need your orchids for the TBOS display. Now is the time to begin looking at your plants that are in bud or spike.
Set up for this show is Friday, Sept. 18 in Lakeland.
There is no charge to enter your orchids in this show.
If you have ANYTHING that might be blooming then, here are some things you can do now:
1. Make sure your plant(s) is pest free.
2. The pot should be clean but doesn’t need to be fancy – it will be covered with sheet moss or cloth.
3. Stake the spike NOW for the best presentation.
We need LOTS of plants to choose from for the display. If your plant isn’t chosen for the display, it will still be entered in the show. Plants will still be eligible, as an individual entry, for ribbon judging and any trophies the guest society awards, or next level AOS awards. We will make certain it is included for judging.
In the past TBOS was awarded the AOS Show Trophy for best exhibit in the show, and First place in Society Displays. Let's repeat that.
If you have ANY questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the TBOS Display Chair by email or phone. Johmanda01@gmail.com or 813-431-6072.

It's easy to believe there are that many orchid enthusiasts out there. READ this article written for that page in 2017. You can find it in the Files section. It is titled 'Orchid Growers – We are Not Alone'. I think most of us would identify and agree with the contents of the article. Keep in mind, some things have changed since 2017.

Discover the world of petite orchids.
The great big orchids make a statement from across the room. The tiny ones invite you to come closer. It is amazing to learn that all of these, so very different flowers, belong to the same family. They are all orchids. Not everyone grows them, but it should be interesting to know them!
