NOVEMBER and DECEMBER MEETINGS

We are continuing our tradition of collecting non-perishable food items, and new toys, for the holidays, for METROPOLITAN MINISTRIES.

Please bring your donation to our monthly meetings.

See Heather Ferrill to assist with this community drive.

From Fran Roberts - Society President

Hello Everyone,

I hope the cold spell that we had didn't affect any of your orchids. We had the jungle in the house, a lot  of unwanted guests arrived (frogs, anoles, crickets, and other assorted creepy crawlies lol)

Just some reminders of upcoming events.

  • Florida State Fair Display - Please see Ruth Ullery if you can assist.

  • FWCOS Annual Show - we have been invited to enter a display by a sister society. Again, please see Ruth if you can assist or need more information.

*********EXCITING NEWS *******

Since we do not have a grower presentation this month, it was suggested that we have a member plant sale. This is permitted through our Bylaws.

There are certain conditions that MUST be followed.

  • Plants that are offered for sale MUST belong to an active TBOS member.

  • All plants MUST MUST be clean and free of disease, insects, and pests.(Present your plants like you would want them presented to you)

  • Plants offered for sale must be established, showing root growth, or sold as bare root.

  • All plants must be properly labeled according to the RHS Horticultural Database.

  • The Chair or assistants of the member plant sale reserve the right to withhold plants that do not meet the above standards.

  • Plants removed from the table must be paid for at that time.

  • The actual number of plants that each member is allowed to bring will be no more than 12, as we will be sharing tables.

  • Kathy Cox has graciously consented to be the Member Plant Sale Chair for this event. Please email Kathy Cox at coxteam@verizon.net or call her at 813 928 4283 to advise her that you are interested and how many plants you will be bringing.

Please don't forget that our meeting also includes our monthly potluck. Please bring a dish, or donate money. Members who bring food will receive a special ticket for a potluck raffle plant.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday. Be safe.

From Kathy Cox - VP of Programs

Thursday, November 20 SPEAKER

🦠Eliot Gregos will be the speaker at our November 20th meeting on the topic of Orchid Viruses. He has a unique combination of experiences as a 50-year grower of orchids plus extensive work in infection investigation and prevention.

🦠If you have more than one orchid in your collection (can you even remember way back then?), you need to hear the FACTS about what viruses are, what they do to our beloved orchids, how to detect them, and most importantly of all, how we can prevent them from spreading to the rest of your collection.

🦠Guaranteed you will hear information you have never heard before and will find useful. It’s a topic we might rather not hear, but one that is critical to know as an orchid enthusiast! Let’s dispel the myths and share the facts about orchid viruses!
