FROM OUR PROGRAM CHAIR - Kathy Cox

This month our guest speaker is Roy Krueger. His topic is growing orchids from beginner level but will include something for those that have been growing for years. In other words, something for everyone.

He will not be bringing plants to sell, so we will have a Member's Plant Sale, so get your plants ready to bring in. Remember to make sure they are free of pests or diseases. If you plan to purchase please bring cash or checks, as the sellers won't have the ability to accept credit cards See everyone on May 21.

Roy has been growing orchids for over 25 years as a hobbyist grower. His collection consists of over 500 plants of various genre including many not commonly grown in Florida such as Angraecum, Lycaste, and Liparis.

He has served as an officer for several area orchid societies including 12 years as president of Manatee Orchid Society, 10 years as vice president of the Sarasota Orchid Society, 14 years as a director and over 15 years of leading Sarasota’s monthly culture classes.

He has spoken to societies all over western Florida.

For over 15 years, he has been publishing a series of articles for newsletters titled “Orchids We Should All Grow”. His hope is that someday, this series will become a book.
