Bifoliate Cattleyas

Julien Baruch has been growing orchids his whole life. He will be speaking to us on Bifoliate Cattleyas. (for an intro to Bifoliates, click this link: The Bifoliate Cattleyas Beginner's Handbook - XVIII - American Orchid Society)
His orchid knowledge really accelerated eight years ago when he joined the Sarasota Orchid Society. Julien went on to intern at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens for The Million Orchid Project before moving to Apopka, Florida.
He now works at Krull-Smith, where he has been learning from Frank Smith and working on the nursery’s hybridizing for the past few years.
Today, Julien also manages Krull-Smith’s sales, website, and social media. Julien is an accredited judge for the American Orchid Society at the Florida-North Central Judging Center.
He will be bringing beautiful plants from Krull-Smith to sell at our June Meeting.
Krull-Smith AOS Award Initiative
The American Orchid Society and its judging program have been the pillars of the orchid community for over a century and have given direction to the entirety of orchid breeding all over the world. The advances in form, color, floriferousness, size, and more have all been gently led along by the American Orchid Society, and we would not have such a thriving orchid community today without them.
As a way to give back and to get more orchid growers involved with the judging process, we're announcing a fun new initiative to further reward hobbyists getting into the world of orchid judging. Anyone who receives an AOS award on a plant bred by us will be eligible to receive a $45 plant credit per award towards any number of our plants!
You must take a photo of you and your awarded plant and share it with Krull-Smith to be eligible for the credit.

Anyone interested in learning more about the judging process is invited to the Florida North Central Judging Center monthly judging sessions. Meeting are on the fourth week of the month.
Click below to go to The FNCJC judging website.
You can join a judging team and observe the criteria that is used to evaluate a candidate orchid for an award. See the tools in action that help the judges score an award-winning entry.
